As I said, my main concern is funding, since from that perspective, things are more hierarchical. One answer of course is to target more interdisciplinary areas.Suresh Venkatasubramanianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15898357513326041822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555947.post-111685825499342772009-03-22T04:13:00.000-06:002009-03-22T04:13:00.000-06:00Ah, here's the rub: I wouldn't want to see AGT as ...Ah, here's the rub: I wouldn't want to see AGT as purely a sub-community of TCS, but rather as straddling a few other communities as well (AI, GT, networks, economics).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555947.post-40197676521270566552009-03-22T02:37:00.000-06:002009-03-22T02:37:00.000-06:00indeed it is, and so is AGT. I view them as subcommunities of a larger TCS community, in the rough sense that the algebraists and topologists are all still mathematicians.Suresh Venkatasubramanianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15898357513326041822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555947.post-6620465603948051862009-03-22T02:32:00.000-06:002009-03-22T02:32:00.000-06:00It does seem unfortunate that computational geomet...It does seem unfortunate that computational geometry blogs (and data structures) don't appear to be recognized as part of the theoretical computer science blogosphere

Point taken, although wouldn't you say that comp-geo is a pretty well-defined community -- sort of like the algorithmic-game-theory one?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555947.post-74974849539384187262009-03-21T16:13:00.000-06:002009-03-21T16:13:00.000-06:00It does seem unfortunate that computational geomet...It does seem unfortunate that computational geometry blogs (and data structures) don't appear to be recognized as part of the theoretical computer science blogosphere

<snark> Well, you know, it might help if more than one of those blogs actually posted something once in a while. </snark>JeffEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17633745186684887140noreply@blogger.com
